cathryn low bauer hawkfeather handbag handcrafted by cathryn

“Hawkfeather” represents both strength and structure along with delicate beauty. This is the story of my life and artwork.

My name is Cathryn Low Bauer.  I create on-of-a-kind hand woven handbags for people that love the quality, texture and beautiful color of fine fibers.  My focus is on useful artwork that has a casual sense of style.

In 2018 after the death of my husband, I moved away from a fast paced 35 year career as an Art Director / Designer in Atlanta to the small town of Hayesville, North Carolina.  I’ve gone back to my roots where in my late teens and early 20's I studied Textile Arts at Rhode Island School of Design and Syracuse University’s 4 year Art Program.  Weaving is a passion–a labor of love.

Up in the mountains, Hayesville and the surrounding towns have a quiet sense of community.  There are wonderful people on local fiber farms caring for Alpaca, Angora Goats and Sheep. I work with the raw fleece, process, dye and hand spin much of the yarns.  The purchase of these handbags help support the animals.

You can find Hawkfeather handbags at local farm stores, small boutiques and Studio 1891 Ink + Art (my studio in downtown Hayesville).  Please call, text or email for more information.  Thank you for your interest.
